Experiencing Me: My Entrepreneurial Journey

I wrote a small note on a post for Instagram about experiencing myself.  Then I decided I had a WHOLE lot more to say than just a quick social media post.  I mean I’m truly experiencing myself (not like that…your mind is nasty). I mean, I am truly experiencing who I am as an entrepreneur and as a person.  Prior to 2015, I had complete confidence in two things: my parenting and my career path in Corporate America.  When I made the decision to forge a path on my own and become an entrepreneur, I had no idea it would become a soul-searching, soul-lifting journey. Defining myself as a person has been necessary for me to identify the type of entrepreneur I am becoming and identifying myself has assisted with the development of my personal brand.

When your business and person brands align, your entrepreneurial intuition will kick into overdrive.

Persisting in entrepreneurship forced me to analyze myself, my principals and my belief systems. I’ve learned boundaries, how to stand for myself, and how to communicate my desires, needs and wants. I’ve learned I must truly believe in myself, without doubt, and hesitation for my business to flow successfully. More importantly, I’ve acknowledged inner peace, confidence in my abilities and myself are the key components of my personal flow. When I flow, my business flows.

Struggling in your business? Have you experienced yourself?

How do you experience yourself? That is the hard part.  You have to truly WANT to know who you are and who you desire to become. First, you have to fight the urge to resist getting to know yourself. Don’t ignore yourself and live blissfully in the lies you believe about yourself that others have reinforced. Don’t be afraid of what you’ll find. Some of us know we are living a lie, we know we are living the life our parents, spouses or society wants us to live and it is making us miserable. When you are ready to live your life in the light God has for you, you will desire to know yourself as HE intends you to be.

You’ll have to face some shit that’s disappointing, painful, and even shameful. You’ll have to stretch yourself and ask yourself some very difficult questions like…

  • What do you want from life?
  • What do you desire for yourself?
  • What do you want for your community?
  • What things about yourself need improvement?
  • What don’t you like about yourself?
  • What do you know about yourself to be true?
  • What are your fears?
  • How have your fears contributed to your current status in life?
  • Will you be a cheerleader for yourself?
  • Are you 100% invested in manifesting your dreams?
  • Are you willing to put in the sweat equity necessary to attain your goals?
  • Are you willing to let go of old habits, relationships and thinking to move forward and achieve success?

The above questions are just the tip of the iceberg as it relates to the questions I asked myself.  You may have a different set of questions. Just know to experience yourself, you have to ask yourself the right questions.  They should be questions triggering emotions ranging from outrage to joy!

You’ll have to analyze your behavior towards yourself and others.  This kind of assessment of yourself is completely necessary to move forward in your greatness. Understanding yourself is exactly how you will grow your business. Knowing yourself, knowing how you move, when you perform at your peak, what motivates you? what DRIVES you to attain the things you desire? That’s when you will be your idea of a successful Entrepreneur.

What did I uncover during my assessment of self?

My body and psyche are riddled with scars from trying to understand myself and trying to receive myself, as I am. I’ve desperately been trying to love and align my mind with my ideal image of myself.  I spent a lifetime staring in the mirror or ignoring my image (depending on the time in my life) because I saw something I didn’t like or something didn’t meet others expectations.  I realized I’d spent most of my life comparing myself to others. Trying to lead my life by other’s barometer left me emotionally unstable and empty. It was time I started looking in the mirror with a different set of eyes, God’s eyes.

I uncovered I was afraid to cheer for myself as fervently as I did for others. I identified I was a people pleaser to a flaw.  I realized I invested in others more than I invested in myself. I uncovered living in the present is more conducive to realizing my future than living in the past. Finally, the most important realization…My positives have to outweigh my negatives in order for me to elevate.

Where I am now is where I was always meant to be.  I’m in a place where fear doesn’t exist only excitement about the future.  Now, I look at myself and see a woman with confidence, resilience, and power.  I no longer look at my imperfections as flaws, I see them as character building blocks.  If there is something I don’t like, I develop it and change it.

Experience Yourself! You must be intentional about your experiences! Love them, feel them, embrace them.  It is the best way to grow in your power.

My Daily Affirmation: I welcome today’s experiences and know I will stretch in my relationship with myself.  I will grow and learn new things about myself and others.  I will be fearless and I welcome the unexpected while moving towards that which I desire.  I declare today’s experiences will be magnificent.
